Breast Augmentation (Mammoplasty)

Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is surgery to increase breast size and symmetry and involves placing breast implants under breast tissue or chest muscles. While for some women, breast augmentation is a way to increase confidence, for others, it’s part of rebuilding and restoring and reconstructing the breasts for a host of reasons.

Common Reasons Women Choose Breast Augmentation

The end result for our patients: more well-shaped breasts and uniformity in breast size.

What are my options when it comes to breast implants?

A breast implant is a silicone shell filled with either silicone gel or a saltwater solution known as saline. The different types of breast implant options are saline, silicone and gummy bear implants.

1

Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone breast implants are filled with silicone gel and feel more like natural breast tissue. If the implant leaks, the gel may remain within the implant shell, or may escape into the breast implant pocket.

These implants:

  • Feel more like natural breast tissue
  • Are FDA-approved for augmentation in women age 22 or older
  • Have a more natural look

2

Saline Breast Implants

Saline breast implants are filled with sterile salt water. And, if the implant shell leaks the saline implant will collapse and the saline solution will be absorbed and naturally expelled by the body.

These implants:

  • Provide a uniform shape, firmness and feel
  • Are FDA-approved for augmentation in women age 18 or older
  • Are implanted through small incisions

3

Gummy Bear Breast Implants

Gummy bear breast implants are thicker than silicone implants and were designed to stay in place and maintain their shape even if the implant shell is broken.

These implants:

  • Contain a silicone gel inside that is thicker than traditional silicone gel implants
  • Hold their shape and size better than the other types of implants
  • Allow you to choose your level of firmness
